Southern Daily Echo 14th January 2012 - Excited Students from Minstead Training Project in the new IT Suite.

The Minstead Training Project has installed a new IT Suite with funds raised from a 3 Peaks walking and climbing charity challenge, where brave (and fit) volunteers had to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon within a 24 hour period.Minstead Training’s Roy Baker - Finance Director, Century IT Services’ Paul Marsh – Partner & Rick Burt - Partner

Ben Nevis is the highest mountain (1344 metres) in the British Isles and is located in the Scottish Highlands.

Scafell Pike is the highest mountain in England at 978 metres and is located in the Lake District National Park in Cumbia.

Mount Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales (1085 metres), located in the Snowdonia National Park.

Century IT Services were approached for their specialist I.T knowledge and expertise (as well as their flexibility with working with charities) to advise and install the new I.T suite of Windows 7 computers and Microsoft Small Business server so there could be maximum functionality and benefit to the students.

Minstead's Students Already Enjoying the new IT Suite

In addition, the I.T Suite can easily be used as an Internet café as well, utilising a shared broadband internet access with Skype and webcams. There are a range of learning applications and software as well as copiers and printers.

The I.T Suite is already in use by the students and staff as well as Furzey Gardens so they can produce signs and photography for Furzey Gardens based near Lyndhurst, Hampshire. The IT Suite will be used by students and staff to offer training and research.

Wow another 12 months have flown by in almost ‘the blink of an eye!’

August 2011

Century IT Mill House Centre

We have been consistently busy for quite some time and our I.T support company has experienced a very busy expansion phase.

We have found that Century IT Services has remained very popular with the local small business community along the south coast and we have experienced our busiest year yet.

In September 2010 we decided to move from the Southampton Science Park to a larger office at the Mill House in Totton, Hampshire, unfortunately within a period of around 12 months we had out grown that office too.

We found we were quickly running out space for the numerous server, computer and network installations we have been performing for new and existing customers and had also recorded a 50% increase with our support desk tickets compared to the previous year.

Century IT new company car

We had also been considering employing an I.T apprentice for some time but simply didn't have the space to do so. The 3 business owners having started their early careers as an apprentices decided that an apprentice would be the preferable method of recruiting additional technical resource and we could train the apprentice to use our methods of working.

Opportunity soon came our way and another much larger office in the Mill House Centre became available so in August 2011 we took the decision to move to a larger office yet again (luckily for us within the same building). To give us greater capacity and flexibility we used the timing of our office move to make significant improvements to our phone systems and server systems and slicker remote and home working, we also invested in a more modern looking web site. (Tell us what you think)

Plans for 2011 – 2012 are further growth and expansion, our business is a service based business and we will continue to deliver the same excellent level of service which is difficult to find elsewhere.

Century IT Services have expanded

September 2010

Century IT Services have expanded our operations and now have offices at the Mill House in Totton.

After another busy year, we have been expanding our customer base and importantly continued to maintain our existing clients in the manner and level of service that they have grown accustomed to.

From our offices in Totton we will be providing our unique IT network support options for Business Critical IT issues, network installation services and our popular Out of Hours Support Services (Century Emergency)

The Mill House Centre has ample parking for visitors and our telephone numbers remain unchanged.

Some local history of the Totton Mill House

The Mill House is still branded Peter Mumford & Sons - Flour Mills 1885

So it would seem in the distant past, at least during the Victorian Era that the Mill House was a local workhouse for people living in Totton, Eling and surrounding areas.

If you look carefully at the orientation of the Mill House building you will notice that the entrance to the building actually faces the railway lines where one would presume that the milled flour was loaded straight onto the trains at Totton Train Station.

The Totton Railway station only opened in 1859 and before the railway was in use the only other means of transport were horse and cart and the Longbridge network of canals that ran where the existing railway lines in Test Lane are, from Redbridge up through the The Wibbeys towards Romsey.

Minstead Training Project & Furzey Gardens

Southampton based Century IT Services have recently helped The Minstead Training Project charity with a computer network installation and modernisation program which was successfully completed a few weeks ago.

The computer network project involved Century IT Services getting involved at the very beginning to understand Minstead’s needs and provide advice on IT systems. Paul Marsh of Century IT Services says “we were more than happy to help out after being approached by The Minstead Training Project. We initially helped by providing IT consultancy services, specifying a computer system that would meet Minstead Training Project’s needs and importantly meeting modern legalisation. This included modernising and improving existing systems whilst also employing new systems, software and securities measures as well as a secure remote and mobile working solution. As with any IT project, it was important that the modernisation was completed on time and to budget with minimal disruption to day to day operations as Minstead’s operations are a 24/7, 365 days a year service.”

Roy Baker, Finance Director at Minstead says “We are very satisfied with our IT System provided by Century IT Services and it actually goes beyond meeting our original requirements, is easy to administer and having received excellent training, again provided by Century IT Services. The benefits of the new system are being utilised by staff and students already – a great result!”

Century IT Services is providing ongoing computer and network support helpdesk services via remote connection and onsite arrangement.

The Minstead Training Project charity was founded in 1986 is situated in the New Forest (Hampshire), in the picturesque village of Minstead near Lyndhurst. It offers whole year round services in residential and day care and training in Work, Life and Social Skills to young people who have learning disabilities.

Century IT Services are now a 3CX Certified Partner

June 2009

3CX Certified Professional

Our commitment to supplying our customers with an alternative to the traditional phone system increased in June as one of the partners attended a VoIP phone system training day in London. This has given Century IT Services a detailed knowledge of the way that VoIP based phone systems can be very flexible and cost effective solution for our customers.

They could potentially save large amounts of money in call charges and provide a flexible system with features that only enterprise systems offer for example; Voice Mail for all extensions, a Digital Receptionist and tele-conferencing. Also another benefit is that this system runs on a standard Computer running a Windows Operating System so when the computer gets obsolete the phone system software can be easily transferred to a new one.

The course was run by 3CX the powerful software which is at the heart of the phone system that Century IT offers. Since the training Rick Burt now has been certified as a "3CX Valued Professional". This means that Century IT Services has proven itself in installing and configuring the 3CX phone system software in a variety of scenarios. It also has access to the 3CX Support team and other support resources.

Aldbourne CAN

Aldbourne CAN

July 2008

This summer has seen Century IT Services provide an internet café solution for the village of Aldbourne in Wiltshire.

The internet cafe is set in the centre of the village in a converted building; it has kitchen and toilet facilities along with desks for 10 people, it also has a chill out area with tables and two black sofas. The internet cafe is made up of 11 HP computers, 17" flat panel monitors, webcams, colour printers and a modern web filtering device. There is also some Xbox game consoles connected to large flat panel HD televisions mounted on the wall. It is also planned to use the CAN for teaching people how to use computers and digital cameras etc

The internet cafe was officially opened on the 24th June 2008 by Chairman of the Parish Council, Brian Buckler, although the cafe will be fully open once volunteers and an employed youth worker can be found to run the day to day activities.

The internet cafe was the idea of the Aldbourne Youth Council and the village Website Group and it was funded by a grant from Kennet District Council, Sarcen Housing association, The National Lottery, GWR Kidz and Wiltshire Young Peoples Opportunity Fund. Nick Wilkinson, a member of the Aldbourne CAN group helped identify the I.T requirements and coordinate tenders from local I.T companies. Century IT Services won this tender after competing with many other local companies.

In the past the Aldbourne Youth Council has:

  • Raised funds with a Sponsored Bike Ride, visited other youth organisations to help advise them on how to set up a youth council, delivered power point presentations to Parish Councils.
  • Had a BMX track and Youth Shelter built for community use, arranged, organised and ran an Alternative Sports Day for the community of Aldbourne as a celebration and fundraising event where MP Michael Ancram came to offer his support and agreed to play his guitar to the crowds alongside the youth band who were playing there.
  • Won the Philip Lawrence Award in December 2006 and a Deutch bank spotlight highly commended award for their efforts to improve the facilities for the community where they live.
  • Laid play bark in a children's play area to save the Parish Council money, put up nest boxes in Rectory Wood and worked with the Aldbourne Volunteers to Plant Hedges on Palmers field and clear the tennis court of moss, weeds and debris on Southward Lane.

The overall operations of the Internet cafe will be run by a management team drawn from both the Youth Council and the Website Group. The website group will now begin to create a new village website and together with the Youth Council and other village organisations, develop a valuable digital archiving service for the village.  There are also plans for a large display cabinet to go on the wall inside the CAN which will display original pieces of village history and pieces will be rotated to maintain interest.

For more information about the project, see the CAN website
